Subject: ILAAS Pool Tournament Info

Hey pool tourney participants,
Although March Madness is almost over, ILAAS is going to start some
excitement of its own with the First Annual ILAAS Pool Tournament. It's
looking to be a competitive field with 24 people total. We are going to have
4 brackets of 6 people each (chosen randomly), with four weeks of season
play. Each of you will play each person in your bracket once for a total of
5 games. At the end of season play, the two people with the worst records in
each bracket will be eliminated and the remaining 16 people will play in a
tournament tentatively scheduled Saturday, April 21.
The remaining partipants will be seeded according to record, with the best
record getting a #1 seed and the worst record a #16 seed. The tournament
will be single elimination (possibly double elimination, pending feedback)
with a race up to 2 wins. There will be prizes for the winner/winners.
Check the website (www.uiuc.edu/ro/ilaas) Sunday night or Monday night to
check what bracket you're in. It is up to you to contact each person in your
bracket and arrange a game. There should be an online form up soon where you
will be required to post: 1) the names of the people playing, 2) the day the
match took place 3) the final score of the game with the winner clearly
specified
Both people playing may post the match for verification purposes. If you
play the match and the online form is not up or you prefer email, then email
the results to burasins@uiuc.edu with "Pool Tournament results" in the
subject heading. Dont forget to check the rules before playing, no sympathy
given if you forget that you have to win four games...
Please make an honest effort to contact everyone in your bracket. If there
are any problems reaching people or if you have any questions whatsoever
about the pool tournament, email me at burasins@uiuc.edu. Four exec board
members are competing, so I'm sure you guys can't wait to take them out.
Have fun, make a few new friends, and best of luck!

                                                            Mark Burasinsanga

the ilaas 8-ball pool tournament   march 05, 2001

---------- Forwarded message ----------

Wanna try your luck at winning incredible prizes? Think you are awesome
at pool but still getting creamed in the union's eight-ball tournament?
Or do you just think you got a great "rack"? ILAAS invites you
to join our Annual Eight-Ball Tournament. You'll be in an intense
four-week season to compete for a spot in the playoffs. Prizes will be
awarded to the winners of the Tournament. You'll have nothing to lose but
all to gain in this free-entry eight-ball league. Not only will you be
awarded with prizes, but the winner has the choice of having his/her
picture posted on ILAAS's homepage(great opportunity if you're single).

Description of the tournament:

Our tournament will be similar to that of the Union's. Players will be
divided in to divisions of five. Each player will be assigned weekly to
play someone in his/her own division. After a course of four weeks where
you have faced all other five players in your division, the top three
players of each division will be invited to a double elimination playoff
held on a saturday in the union pool hall. Each match will be a race up
to four with BCA's eight-ball rules as the guideline. BCA rules can be found on
your membership card, ILAAS's
website, or at the union's pool hall. You can sign up through e-mail or
on our website. We will let you know when the season officially starts and who
is in your
bracket.

To simplify things, we'll post assigned matches and every
player's info on our web page.
Results of matches can also be turned in through e-mail or the website.
Each player will be responsible to contact his/her opponent through e-mail
or phone and set up a time for the match. Sorry, but you'll have to pay for
your own pool time. However if you make the playoffs, it'll be on us.

Entry Fee	: Free for members. Don't worry, if you are not a member
                   and would like
to compete, simply go to our website
                          (www.uiuc.edu/ro/ilaas)
and become a member(with your membership, you
will get the official E-card, loaded with discounts and
                   cool stuff).

To fellow UIUC classmates,

In life, it is not what you know, but WHO you know.

I would like to introduce you to our new club, ILAAS. It stands for
Illini Life for Asian-American Students. Of course, you don't have to be
Asian or American, or even a student to join us.
So what do we do? ? Absolutely NOTHING...that is boring, and
everything that is exciting. In ILAAS, we simply want to have a blast
with friends. We are planning to host a few picnics, sport tournaments,
tutoring/homework/study sessions, used book exchange, poker nights,
paintball, shopping trips, and many more. Basically, whatever YOU want to
do. Just think of ILAAS as a network for you to meet a few more people
who you may want to know.
Wanna know more? Come join us for our first ever event - ILAAS
Kickoff 2001 (info below). Yes, by coming, you are actually making
history! If that isn't enough incentive for you, I guess I will have to
say the magic words--"FREE SNACKS!"

When?? Friday, Feb. 9, 7-8:30 pm.
Where?? ISR Multipurpose Room

So come with your friends and find out what we're all about.
We'll see you there.

the first ilaas activity: the basketball tournament
---------- Forwarded message ----------
Date: Mon, 4 Dec 2000 16:11:44 -0600 (CST)
Subject: ILAAS B-Ball tournament

hey guys,

Here is the final score:

Game 1: ILAAS 23
        TASC 19

Champioship game
Game 2: ILAAS 37
        HKSA 23

Thanks for helping Illini Life for Asian-American Students dominate in the
basketball tournament. I hope all of you will participate in future ILAAS
events. I hope to organize a tournament for the second semester, so you
all will be definitely invited. Now for some individual comments...

Michael Somers: man, its too bad you had to go make subs instead of
playing for us, you would have done well...thanks for showing up, next
time definitely.
Mike Shing: You were a monster on Defense, thanks for suiting up on
short notice and playing for ILAAS, the team really apppreciated it. hehe,
good thing you didn't knock anyone down this time...
Ha Van: that reverse you had was the best shot in the tournament, thanks
for playing hard on offense and defense for us...
Larry Cheng: Not only do you have a nice looking shot, it also goes in.
I know that was a three that you shot that they took away. Don't worry
about those two blown layups, cause you came right back with the trifecta.
Robin: I know you were searching for that shot, but it just didn't
come saturday...Thats alright, you hit that nice one in the corner
(remember who gave you the rock on that one) You played hard on D and
thats what counts
Alex: Hehe, maybe you will develop into a point guard one day. You
talked a lot before the game, but you backed it up come game time. Great
hustle, definitely was a big factor, especially that first game.
Suggey: Incredible game for you, especially considering you had
guys hanging on your arms the whole game. Did incredible on the boards,
great game overall, thanks.
David Ro: What can I say? You did awesome man, had the inside and
outside game going, can't even count how many boards you got, had some
nice running jumpers, really pulled it out for us that second game.

I hope to play ball with you guys soon. Actually I hope we all can get
together and ball in the future. Best of luck preparing for finals and
congratulations to everybody.

						Mark Burasinsanga
						ILAAS President

P.S. Matt Wong doesn't talk much about basketball anymore? I wonder why.
