ILAAS Movie Night!!!

This weeks' event will be Movie Night at Beverly
on Friday. Anyone who is interested can meet us in front of the Union

    We hope you've had a wonderful winter break and holiday. Welcome back for
another exciting semester. To start off the new year, we would like to invite
you guys to dinner this upcoming Saturday (Jan. 26) and to hang out afterwards.
Dinner will be at Yen-Jing's(near Fourth and Green) at 6:30.  Because it's a
buffet setting, you can drop by a little later if you can't make it at that
time. From there, we'll head over to Evo Internet Cafe (next to TIS Bookstore)
at 8:00. There'll be cards, chess, Jenga, Yahtzee, chinese chess, mahjong,
Monopoly, among other games. As a special treat, if you are a member, or become
a member that day, ILAAS will buy you a free drink (you can choose among a
variety of fruit slushes and bubble tea drinks). And of course, there are 
computer games upstairs. Sign up for our game tournament and find out who is the
best in Counterstrike, Brood War, and Unreal (more info on Saturday). Here are
the specifics:

What time: 6:30 P.M. for dinner, 8:00 P.M. for Evo
Where: Dinner at Yen Jing (near Fourth and Green, across from Walgreens), Games
and other fun stuff at Evo Internet Cafe at 8:00 P.M.
Why should I come?: If you are a member, or want to join, get a free specialty
drink paid for by ILAAS ($1.99 value) Also hang out with fellow ILAAS members,

board) There will be ILAAS Exec Board members on the 1st floor near the entrance

ILAAS Halloween Movie Night this Friday!!!!

Okay, so our Halloween Movie Night is actually taking place two days
after the 31st...we'll still be keeping with the Halloween spirit by
showing a scary movie and passing out candy. The Exorcist (voted scariest
movie of all time) will be featured, although we'll be taking requests
(Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and anything else you guys can
think of). We'll also have some great "BEVERAGES" and snacks. Come to
chill, come to get scared, come to meet people, whatever, JUST COME!!!

Tired of cable TV? Sick of renting movies that everyone has seen
already? Missing the movie-going experience? Then let's go see a movie
this friday.
The show: Don't Say a Word
Showtime: 9:35pm
We will meet together at the lobby on the north side of the union(the side
facing Green St.) @8:15 and take the bus @ 8:30 (be on time) to the movie
theatre.

*If the bus is on time, we will most likely arrive the theatre around 9,
for those who want to see "The Zoolander", it starts at 9. So it is
possible that we can divide into 2 groups and meet back after the movies.

p.s. Hey boys and girls, come join the Martial Arts Workshop and become
tougher than most ppl on this campus=). It's on Tuesday every week, from
7-8:30 pm inside the Armory(where the track and field area is). It's free,
just dress comfortably and be prepared for a good workout.

                            Six Flags Fright Fest!

YES, ILAAS is planning a trip to Six Flags Great America this October to
"celebrate" Halloween 2001 = )
There is a new online signup for those who are interested in going on a
six flags gurnee trip sometime in late october! When you sign up, u get to
pick the date that would match your schedule. And we'll pick whichever
date the majority picks.  If we get 20+ ppl to go, you each can save $7.19 off
the main gate price!  good deal huh ^_^
Alrite, you just have to go to www.uiuc.edu/ro/ilaas and sign up.  Please
do so before Oct 4th so we can count the ppl and let you know if we really
are going (remember, we want more than 20 ppl!)  Rides will be provided=)

Martial Art Workshop

The goal of this workshop is to provide an environment for those who are
interested in learning martial arts to cultivate their skills and interest
further. Experienced participants are very much welcome, along with new
comevers. One of the main objectvies in their workshop is to exchange
different ideas and styles. Vigorous training is expected, so dress
comofrtablly and bring strong spirit, because you will have one heck of a
workout!

Time: Every Tuesday 7PM to 8:30 PM
Place: The Track & Field area inside the Armory (corner of Wright and
Gregory)

I would like to introduce you to our new club, ILAAS. It stands for Illini
Life for Asian-American Students. Of course, you don't have to be Asian or
American to join us.
ILAAS is a club dedicated to its members and their friends. We help create
a bond among Illini students through social events, social events, and
yes, MORE SOCIAL EVENTS!!!  The events ILAAS hosts include: barbeques,
poker nights, basketball tournaments, clubbing and bar hopping, canoeing,
skiing, paintballing, camping, used book exchange, and pool
tournaments. Anything that involves socializing - we're doing it! We even
receive discounts to various restaurants with our membership card.
Basically, we'll do whatever YOU want to do. Just think of ILAAS as a
network for you to have fun and meet a few more people.

Ever wanted to bring out the soldier in you? Think you can do better than
those S.W.A.T teams you see on TV? To celebrate the coming of a new semester,
we are hosting a paintball event with our friends from Hawaii Club. Sudden
Impact, a field about an hour from campus, is the most ideal place to go.
You~{!/~}ll really feel like you are in the middle of a battlefield once you
don the army jackets they give you! And who can pass up the chance to nail
your roommate or rival from 50 yards away? Please reply ASAP if you are
interested, because ILAAS will only be able to accommodate the first 20 people
who sign up. Here is a summary:

Where:  Sudden Impact (estimated time a little over an hour from the Union),
detailed directions will be given in later e-mails.
When: Saturday, September 8th.  Meet at the Green Street entrance of the
Union at noon.
Cost: Estimated to be around $25.00 for necessary equipment and 250 balls.
Why: Chance to prove your skills by destroying enemy teams with pinpoint accuracy

	Before another semester flashes by, ILAAS would like to
invite all of its friends to one last gathering. To greet the coming of
summer, we are planning a picnic/bbq for Saturday, the 28th of
April at Crystal Lake.

Volleyball, football, ultimate frisbee, water balloons, and many other
activities will be made available. We might also
have a Mini-Olympics, where teams will compete against each other to
accomplish certain tasks. To reward all participants, our very own Iron
Chefs will be cooking a wide range of delicacies ranging from Italian
sausages to chicken to corn on the cob, and lastly but certainly not
least, my personal favorite, marshmallows. For dessert, exotic fruits
(watermelon, pineapples, etc...) will be prepared for everyone.

not talking about Duke, I'm not talking about Arizona, I'm talking about the
ILAAS Basketball Tournament baby! Are you ready for P.T. (prime time)? Are
you a P.T.P. (prime time player)?
	If you got game, you better start putting together your All-Rolls Royce
Team (Superstar Team) for the tournament. Or you can sign yourself up and
ILAAS will do the honors of putting you in an All-Alcatraz Team (Breakout
Team). Oh, by the way, the ILAAS Exec Board is going to form its own
All-Sportscenter Team (Highlight Reel Team). You better start practicing,
'cause the ILAAS Exec Board is going to show no mercy. We are going to dish
the rock, shoot the area code J, and drill the trifectas baby! Think you can
take a W from us, come and get it!

Format: 1) Sign up your own 5 (team entry)

	 No referees
	 Max of one substitute player
	 Game up to 21, 1's and 2's
       Full court 5 on 5
	 Each member of the team must be in uniform color (remember to register
your team color)

Hey pool tourney participants,
	Although March Madness is almost over, ILAAS is going to start some
excitement of its own with the First Annual ILAAS Pool Tournament. It's
looking to be a competitive field with 24 people total. We are going to have
4 brackets of 6 people each (chosen randomly), with four weeks of season
play. Each of you will play each person in your bracket once for a total of
5 games. At the end of season play, the two people with the worst records in
each bracket will be eliminated and the remaining 16 people will play in a
tournament tentatively scheduled Saturday, April 21.
	The remaining partipants will be seeded according to record, with the best
record getting a #1 seed and the worst record a #16 seed. The tournament
will be single elimination (possibly double elimination, pending feedback)
with a race up to 2 wins. There will be prizes for the winner/winners.
	Check the website (www.uiuc.edu/ro/ilaas) Sunday night or Monday night to
check what bracket you're in. It is up to you to contact each person in your
bracket and arrange a game. There should be an online form up soon where you
will be required to post: 1) the names of the people playing, 2) the day the
match took place 3) the final score of the game with the winner clearly
specified
	Both people playing may post the match for verification purposes. If you
play the match and the online form is not up or you prefer email, then email
the results to burasins@uiuc.edu with "Pool Tournament results" in the
subject heading. Dont forget to check the rules before playing, no sympathy
given if you forget that you have to win four games...
	Please make an honest effort to contact everyone in your bracket. If there
