Silence and inaction have traditionally
been associated with the Asian Pacific American Community. To combat
this, UIUC students of the Asian Pacific Islander American Coalition
created Unseen Unheard Conference of Asian America in 1996.
Unseen Unheard is free and open to all.
It is undeniable that we students do not have the power to change
the injustices in our communities and society. By making our issues
and concerns SEEN and HEARD, we empower our own community.
The main objective of the 6th Unseen Unheard
Conference is to fight apathy within the UIUC Asian Pacific
Islander American (APIA) student body. Recognizing that the struggle
against apathy is long term, the conference hopes to rebuild a foundation
by achieving the following:
1. To educate about issues that directly
effect the APIA community at UIUC,
2. To show the importance and history of
activism at UIUC,
3. To maintain a network of APIA students,
4. To cultivate new relationships with
uninvolved APIAs,
5. To unify student organizations (RSO),
6. And to encourage and foster student
leaders.
